Water cross racing…What’s it all about you ask?

Water cross racing is about a lot of things…Fun, competition, athletics, sportsmanship, conditioning, family and friends, mechanical ability, and enjoyment of the outdoors.

The sport of personal watercraft racing has been around since the late 1970’s and it is a very exciting sport to both watch and participate in. The Great Lakes Watercross Events that Pro Tour Promotions feature are called Closed Course and Freestyle.   Closed Course Racing is motocross on water with Road course type lay-out including left and right turns and straight-aways which are all designated by buoys.  It is a contest of speed and riding ability featuring several competitors negotiating multiple laps of a course that varies in length.   It’s handle-bar to handle-bar action with log jumps and plenty of waves.  With Speeds of up to 70 mph with both runabout and stand-up watercraft, they are action packed events sure to thrill the fans.  There are two styles of watercraft to be raced in closed course events: the Ski class, otherwise referred to as stand-up personal watercraft, and Runabout, otherwise referred to as sit-down personal watercraft.

The second of the two events that will be featured are the Freestyle events.  Freestyle events are intended to show a rider’s skill and expertise in executing difficult, challenging and creative maneuvers within a set period of time.  Each participant has a two minute time period to show his or her skill.  A panel of judges will determine the winner.

About us…

Great Lakes Watercross is headed up by Scott Hyke who has a vast amount of knowledge related to water cross racing.  Scott’s knowledge includes sixteen years of experience traveling around the country competing, and promoting personal watercraft racing.

The Great Lakes Watercross Tour is sanctioned by the IJSBA (International Jet Sports Boating Association).  The IJSBA was formed to promote the safe use of personal watercraft, to provide regulated competition events, to formulate rules, to govern racing between these watercraft, to further the interest of its membership, and to act as a national governing and sanctioning body for the sport.  In addition to offering an outlet for racers to compete on a regional level, Great Lakes Watercross events will also provide means for competitors to qualify for the IJSBA World Championships held annually in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

The objectives of Great Lakes Watercross are to encourage the promotion of safety in competition and in all events and activities, to foster strong and fair competition, and to provide an impartial events and competition program.

The Great Lakes Watercrosss 2010 Tour will consist of six rounds of racing action that run from June through August with each round of racing attracting a large number of talented watercraft racers and fans alike.
